Factual lifetime mode

Factual Lifetime Mode is the main band name for music created by Matt Duck. Matt was born in Nottingham, England in the 1960s. He was lucky enough to live through the end of punk, new wave in the late 70s early 80s then even luckier to live through the Dance and House music explosion in the early to mid 80s.

In Nottingham he was a contemporary of the Nottingham cult bands Tindersticks and Fatal Charm, Paul Statham of B-Movie who has written million selling songs for Dido and the DJ Graeme Park, widely credited as one of the original founders of the UK's rave/club scene.  He was also in a band with the BBC Award winning jazz saxophonist Julian Siegel called All Fall Down.

Factual Lifetime Mode began their journey in 1979 as a name on a school rucksack. Musical adventures began with an acoustic guitar and an old accordion. Very quickly 20 songs were written and recorded onto a Telefunken 2 track tape machine that only played mono.  A Casio VL Tone and a Teisco guitar joined the equipment.  Songs were a cross between early Ben Watt, The Farmers Boys and Bill Nelson of Be Bop Deluxe. Factual Lifetime Mode or FLM for short performed their first gig on the NHS stage in Nottingham, England December 1980 singing over the top of the Telefunken tapes.

Factual Lifetime Mode put any serious musical output on hold during the mid 80s to mid 90s for college studies and a career in banking.  In 1990 under the name Bop Station, they demoed an album called Until Lisbon.  Indie labels such as Cherry Red Records said they "liked the music, but not for us". Times had changed and were looking for the next Primal Scream and House of Love not John Martyn.

In the mid 90s with the advent of ability to record high quality songs onto a PC in a home studio setting using a computer Factual Lifetime Mode began recording again. Since then, Factual Lifetime Mode have released 9 albums and 8 singles.  There have been occasional other guitar and keyboard players featured on a few tracks, but nearly all of the music is written, recorded, mixed and mastered by Matt. Factual Lifetime Mode also appear on music by Bop Station and The Funk Bro.
